MS III
Clerkship

The Emergency Medicine rotation is a 3-week Clerkship during the 3rd year. Students rotate through the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments at University Hospital, as well as, Upstate at Community General working alongside Emergency Medicine residents and faculty. Undifferentiated patients with various Emergency Department complaints will be seen by the students under the direct supervision of senior residents. Emphasis will be on history taking and acquisition, physical examination of the patients, and differential diagnosis and treatment plans.

Students also have the opportunity to work directly with an Emergency Department Nurse during a Nursing & Procedure Shift practicing IV, Phlebotomy, and other procedural skills performed in the ED. Students will also receive simulation-based case teaching by faculty, and online modules. Specifics of the course will be emailed to each student prior to the start of the course.
